Clearly we love Keswick. It's a cracking little town with lots to do, set in some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. The town hosts a lot of different events each year and if you click on the festivals button below you will see a full calendar of festivals and events. Or for those of you who want to simply get away from it all click on the walks button to access the Keswick Tourism Association's walking site.
And on top of all that, Keswick is full of great restaurants, bars, cafes, shops and other attractions. Here are some of our faves.
The Alhambra cinema turned 100 years old in March 2014. It's less than a minute away from Honister House and we think it's an absolute treasure. It's also home to the brilliant Keswick Film Club.
Theatre By The Lake
Home to a fantastic rep company and host to shows by famous comedians and musicians throughout the year. Guests at Honister House can get discounts on tickets for the theatre too.
Keswick put the lead into your and everybody else's pencil. No, really we did. Well not lead exactly, but graphite. And we're proud of it.
English Heritage describes Castlerigg as probably the most atmospheric of all British stone circles. And who are we to disagree. Always great at Solstice.
Hop on or off at any of the seven landing stages around Derwentwater, or just stay onboard and relax. Discount tickets available from us too.
A classy bistro and a funky bar all in one. A great selection of Belgian beers and live music too, all just a 30 second walk away from Honister House.
There are lots of outdoor gear shops in Keswick. But the nicest by far is George Fisher. And as it is just across the road from us you can window shop whilst having your breakfast.
A family business since 1927 and possibly the finest sweet shop in England with an astounding array of sugary delights.
If you need some help or encouragement to get you out into the wilds then Lakeland Mountain Guides will help you go further and climb higher than you'd imagine.
King Kong Climbing Centre
The King Kong Climbing Centre is brill. Bouldering, caving, lots of climbs and an amazing indoor ice wall.
It's as if the Arts & Crafts Movement never went out of fashion. A great hands on museum, worth visiting if only to play on the musical stones.
Lakeland Mountain Guides
The underground slate mine tour is amazing and the Via Ferrata is thrilling, but the Via Ferrata Xtreme is truly terrifying.
Tiny but with a big heart, vibrant but relaxed. The pizzas are made in a strict Neapolitan fashion: a thin crust and fresh mozzarella. Oh and they serve the best cocktails in town too.
Did you know Cumbria is the fattest county in England? You won't be surprised when you see the size of the portions at The George. For our money it's the best pub grub in town.
A very welcome addition to Keswick's culinary circuit. A cool cafe by day and an informal food lovers' bistro in the evening.
Easily one of the best charity shops in England! No, seriously. The vinyl's a bit pricey, but it is for a good cause.
Back in 2006 the previous owners of Honister House decided they didn’t want to run a B&B anymore, so they set up the brilliant Keswick Brewing Co.
